Nickerie is one of the ten districts of Suriname, this district is known for the famous rice fields. The first Place to live in Nickerie was Paradise, a forsake platage back then. This place was for the british-indian contracters, whose contract ended, to provide them for agriculture. Back then the business of "Balata" was very popular and the people who went to the jungle to harvest balata, brought rice there to eat. The british-indian people may not go to the jungle to harvest balata because the government reserved them for practicing agriculture. And that's how the rice industry/rice cultivation started in this beloved district!

Close-up photo of a rice field. Here we can see the rice plants in a peaceful green shade. Weeks before the rice grains will show up. When the "rice" is about to harvest, the fields won't be green anymore, but yellow.
