This is just a little blog on our chicken coop build from start to finish - well, nearly finished as we still have a few finishing touches to add.
Above is a quick video of most of the build. I have put together some more detailed and instructional type videos, and have more I am currently working on, of how Mr. Rain built each individual part like the nesting boxes, the coop door, the run gate, the hand crafted metal latches, and more. So much work involved in not only the process of making these things, but the editing of those videos from hours and hours down to a tolerable watch time that is also educational!
Last year Mr. Rain got as far as making the stem walls around the coop area after replacing the supporting posts for the playhouse and rebuilding the entire fence along the east side. This year he started back into the project by hand mixing and pouring a concrete floor for easy clean up. Then he was able to get started on the actual cool itself.

After finishing the build, he went on to create this nice run and fabulous (at least in my opinion) gate to the run:
Patrick then painted the coop to not only match our house, but the playhouse that is above it. The playhouse was originally built when our boys were little, about 20 years ago. They are now in their 20's but we wanted to keep the playhouse for our future grandbabies. A lot of work went into lifting up the playhouse, replacing the old rotting 4"x 4" with treated 6" x 6" and set them in concrete so they should last twice as long, or more, as the ones before.
He then went on to create the wonderful latches for the door and gate but I will likely talk more of those in a future post. Very proud of my husband and what a talented person he is. Not sure what I would ever have done without him!
