But that doesn't meant you should always look for them.
Today I spent a big part of my time at work trying to think of something to write about during my break. I still did my job, but my mind was mostly focused on what article I should write. Even when I had a few minutes to spare and I could go through my phone a bit, I still thought of ideas, going on Medium, Quora and Pinterest trying to find something that would inspire me.
And that's only an example that applies to today. I've been doing this for some time, trying to find ideas in the movies I watched, the games I played or the books I read.
This might sound great at first, considering just how much content you might be able to create by using this strategy. You just do what you always do while thinking of new topics to approach.
There is, however, a disadvantage to this strategy.
Although you do get more and more ideas the more you look for them in your everyday life, you can also get to a point where you stop enjoying what you're doing, simply because your mind is focused on the things you could write about instead of the activity that you're doing.
If you watch a movie, but all you can think about is trying to find small details here and there that will help you come up with something to write about, then at the end you might have 2-3 subjects you can approach, and that's great from the point of view of a content creator, but that might've come at the cost of you not even paying proper attention to the movie.
The same thing can apply to reading a book or playing a game. If all you do is to try to find ideas, then are you properly enjoying the activity that you chose to do, or are you simply using it as a medium through which to come up with more content?
I used writing as an example here, but you can pick anything else, from composing to drawing, painting, photography, and so on.
So be careful when you try to make your entire life about ideas. Sure, you might be getting good results when it comes to your work, but is it worth forgetting to enjoy the now just so that you can have something to create at all times?
