This is the last week in which I will write and post daily. I started in April and I'll stop on the first of November. That means that in total I will have 236 articles published in 7 months. That's a number I'm proud of.
I started this little personal challenge for almost no reason whatsoever other than just to see if I could do it. Although at times it was difficult and frustrating to have to come from work, tired and angry, just to spend another 30 minutes writing, I am happy, overall, that I managed to accomplish my goal.
There are both disadvantages and advantages to daily writing, and most of them are quite obvious.
Writing so much will eventually lead to repetition and a lack of ideas. It's just not really possible to always write something new, something unique, something great, especially not when you're trying to do it every day. You'll run out of things to talk about sooner or later, and then you might be forced to approach topics you're familiar with, even though they might not be great.
Aside from that, burnout can be an obstacle as well. I've had moments in which I seriously thought about quitting, simply because I had too much to do. Doing something every single day for a long time can take the fun out of it at times and make it seem like nothing but work, and then you'll eventually get tired of it. Writing is no exception.
Aside from having a difficult time coming up with ideas to write about, you might also get to a point where you cannot really approach any new topic because you don't feel like you know enough. You also might lack the time to do proper research on whatever it is you want to write about, so you might be stuck just writing about the very little knowledge you possess, without the time to learn more.
Those are only a few disadvantages. This doesn't mean that writing and posting daily can't be good.
You will create a ton of content by simply being consistent. Writing so much will allow you to explore a multitude of topics and with every article you'll grow the amount of work that you've done, growing your "portfolio", if that's something you're interested in.
The high amount of work can also make it much easier for you to get noticed. If you only write an article a week you'll eventually have 52 articles by the end of the year, which is a great number. But if you write daily, you'll have 365, which means that there's a higher chance that at least one person will stumble upon at least one of your articles.
Monetary rewards are also possible. Writing a lot might help you find more people interested in what you have to say, which can easily translate in some extra cash, depending on the platform you use.
I can keep going for both sides, but I'll stop here. As with many things out there, writing and posting every day has advantages and disadvantages. Whether doing this will benefit you or not, that's something you have to figure out on your own. And the best way to do that is to try it out. Writing every day for a week or two will give you an idea of the amount of work that goes into this, the rewards and the challenges you might have to face.
I'm happy I started this little challenge. I'm happy I managed to stick with it. And I'm happy that I'll soon be done.
