Basic Sketchup Tutorial: Creating Simple 3D Models
For more details I will describe one by one. Select Tool: This tool is similar to that in other graphics programs, its function is to make a selection of objects.
Line Tool: This tool is used to create lines. In the process of creating a 3 D model you will use this tool a lot.
Push / Pull: This tool to give thickness or depth to an object. Rectangle Tool: This tool you can use to create a rectangle. In addition there are other tools. In order to better understand the function of the existing tools we will try to create a simple 3 D model that is a table lesehan. The end result of the model we will make more or less like below.
To make the model as above is quite simple. Please follow the steps below:
- Open Google Sketchup program You can any version either pro or free. If you do not already have this program you can download it for free to web sketchup. In this tutorial I'm using Google SketchUp 8.
- Then click the template to choose a template that suits your needs. Because this time the model that we will make has a relatively small size choose product design and woodworking unit millimeter. Then click start Using sketch up.
- Before starting to create a model we can use the appropriate style. The way select Window on the menu and styles. There are many alternatives you can choose but this time I use design style.
- To start making a table model like the picture above please select rectangle tool and then make a rectangle with length of 1500 mm and width 1200 mm. The way please click on any place ago in the right corner of the existing dimension type text with the number 1500; 1200 and press enter.
- Next select push / pull tool, then click inside the square and in the distance 150 type end with enter.
- Next select the orbital tool. Click the object in mouse condition is still clicked up so that the visible is the bottom of the object.
- Select the offset tool and click on the bottom of the input value 50 on the distance.
- The next step we will make table legs. Using the rectangle tool click the corner corner of the inside and enter a value of 150. Repeat this for the other three corners.
Next select the push / pull tool. click the rectangle already created in step 8 and enter a value of thickness of 100. Do the same steps for the other three rectangles.
Until this step you can create a model table lesehan 3 D. But wait this is not finished yet. Select the select tool and then select all the objects you have created. Next right click and select make group.
Using the orbital tool rearrange the object's position so that it is nice to see and then select the paint bucket to give the color so it has the impression of the original object. There are many colors and textures that you can choose but because we want to make a wooden table choose wood texture and the result is like below.
To refine the display if you use rendering software: artlantis, vray and so on.
