Probably many of you have heard of great friendships and attachment connecting animals with their owners. One such story took place in Edinburgh when John Gray bought a small terrier to accompany him during night patrols of the city.
Po kilku wspólnie spędzonych latach John zmarł na gruźlice 5 lutego 1858 i został pochowany na cmentarzu Greyfriars. Terrier BOBBY tak się przywiązał do swojego właściciela ze spędził przy jego grobie kolejne 14 lat. Początkowo był przepędzany przez dozorce cmentarza, ale zawsze wracał.Z czasem jednak dozorca zaczął dokarmiać Bobiego.
After several years spent together, John died of tuberculosis on February 5, 1858 and was buried in the Greyfriars cemetery. The BOBBY terrier got so attached to its owner that he spent the next 14 years at his grave. Initially, he was chased away by the caretaker of the cemetery, but he always returned. Over time, however, the caretaker began to feed Bobbie.
Kiedy w 1867r zaczęto pobierać podatki od właścicieli psów, a każdy pies który nie posiadał obroży był usypiany, mały terrier swoim zachowaniem zrobił takie wrażenie na Sir Williamie Chambersie (Provost of Edinburgh) który usłyszał jego historie kupił mu obroże i opłacał za niego podatki.
When taxes began to be collected from dog owners in 1867, and any dog without a collar was put to sleep, the little terrier impressed Sir William Chambers (Provost of Edinburgh) with his behavior, who heard his stories, bought him collars and paid him taxes.
Tak BOBBY spędził 14 lat przy grobie swojego przyjaciela aż do stycznia 1872r.

Eleanor Atkinson napisała książkę Greyfriars Bobby, wydaną w 1912, przedstawiającą (w ubarwiony sposób) losy Bobby'ego i jego pana. Tytuł polskiego tłumaczenia książki: Bobik od Franciszkanów. W oparciu o nią powstał w 1961 film Greyfriars Bobby: The True Story of a Dog.

This story still inspires many today. And the little terrier received a monument right next to the cemetery where he rested not far from the main entrance. There is also a pab with his name. And
