Judging from the economic role, grasshoppers are considered a destructive pest by farmers. Infestation by insects is greatly influenced by existing climatic conditions.
Grasshopper populations are estimated to be highest in areas where cold weather in early spring is replaced by warm and dry conditions in late spring. Conversely, spring and low temperatures in summer cause a decline in grasshopper populations.
Grasshopper's age is around 12 months. Research has found that the survival rate of nymphs after hatching is around 50 percent, because it is most likely that they can be eaten by natural enemies such as birds, rats and lizards. In this way, grasshoppers play a major role in the effective functioning of the ecosystem, by providing food for many predators in the food chain.
