As the year closes in, marking Christmas Eve and a nationwide holiday, the festivity is definitely in the air. The roads are almost empty as of the evening; it’s strange given it’s Sunday— people are mostly seen on streets and pubs on usual weeks; chatting, shouting, fighting sometimes and police cars blaring sirens every now and then. Where have they all gone?

It’s the festivity, right?

After all, it’s a once-in-a-year celebration, sharing laughter, joy, love and affection with family and friends. Giving importance to the person most cared about, saying hello to long-forgotten neighbours, gifting sweets to adored ones— oh, how it feels to leave the bustling life for the day and delving deep into strengthening relationships, bondings, and spreading compassion. I wonder how it feels to be the master of this universe and see us creatures do such crazy things; masking our true selves for the moment and turning on the angel faces for Christmas or whatever occasions we celebrate at different times of the year, lol!

Us, humans, we are the most pretentious creatures existing. Other creatures, they are just themselves all the time— perhaps we find them in a different way sometimes but that’s because we tamed them, and trained them to be. They eventually forget what their true nature is, but we don’t. Might not resonate with everyone, but, the majority of us, let’s say me— I would unleash the monster residing within if things were in my favour. Not sure what kind of monster is living there, but it could be of many forms; with versatile attitudes and behaviour.

What if we wouldn’t mind showing what we truly are? Acting as if we don’t care, or we actually have nothing to care about. Life would be much easier, I guess. You didn’t have to wake up early in the morning and rush towards the job with a strong coffee in one hand and a fake smile under which you hid all the disgust the world could have experienced. Or you could just sleep as long as you could without going to the church for the morning carol; without being worried about what your god-fearing wife would say, or save some extra bucks without going the extra mile to buy a bigger Christmas tree than your neighbour.

Could it make our life easier? There is no straightforward answer, I guess. But certainly, it would make things easier for propagandists to take control, putting one against another and harvesting the benefits. Harmonised by a perfect anarchy; everything in chaos— well, we might not have a sense of what’s chaotic or not. Could be the word never existed. Too much of blabbering for a festive eve, let’s not prolong the nonsense.

So, since we are preparing for the big occasion and already shrunk our Grinch face, let’s hope we do not bring it foreground once the calendar marks the end of tomorrow.

Being compassionate doesn’t cost you anything but a few words, comforting words. Being Santa doesn’t require you to have reindeer with the flying sledge and a big sack of gifts but a smile; with a true smile on your face and a gesture of love would bring Christmas to your home every day, for eternity.

Merry Christmas, folks!
