2007 - Tram retro-parade at St.Petersburg
This was not a long journey, took less than a day, and I didnt travel overseas or to another city: I travelled in time! September 29, 2007 was a special day, when the city celebrated the 100 year anniversary of tramlines at St.Petersburg. Municipal authorities managed to run a parade of all historical types of trams that ever ride across the streets here. Luckily, we were in the know and spent half-day, riding the city and testing all of them. Pretty sadly, that 50mm was the only lens in my arsenal by the time, so I was limited and captured quite a few panoramas. This is one of them. Precious memories of one damn good day in my life.
2006 - Siwash, Russian "Dead Sea"
Believe me or not, Russia has its own "Dead sea", which is not so well-known, as the original one in Israel. But it is a winderful place of intrest and worth going. But, you should find out more about that place before going, or you'd rather risk to miss its beauties (which are, lets say, pretty well hided over a small territory). On this picture you see the old Salt mines. The salt is mined here by blocking the sea and water evaporation in the most simple way - everything happens by itself, naturally, under the sun). This certain capture I made from the train window as we passed by. Oh, I totally forgot the name: "Siwash sea" is the name, it is located at the north of Crimea peninsula.
2006 - Koktebel, Crimea
Koktebel is a famouse resort at the Black sea, located at Crimea. Obviously, the sea is "black" or lead-grey only on the bad days. Otherwise, its a great resort place where people use to spend their summer vacays. Crimea has a lot of dull lonely sunken hills and mountains, these alienated tobacco-colored fields were the favourite location for the cinema man to shoot anything that had to look like the 'southern nature', sea adventures, etc. Tonns of films were produced here, including 'The Treasure Island'. The great soviet sci-fi eco blockbuster 'Per Aspera ad Astra' (1982) -- in the part of the poisoned landscapes of planet Dessa - also was shot right at these hills.
Adding one more as a bonus, as its not my picture at all; my friend shoot and sent it to me -- we travelled together.
So, you see me in the frame; the dude with an orange sweater, taking pics of the wilted grass -- is, actually, me! from 2006 - isnt it fantastic! Great to have friends by your side. And taking pics of photographers taking pics, always is a double fun
