"Today it is a ruined space that is falling apart before our eyes. It has its historical reputation, but there is not and probably will not be the money to change it anymore.
"The so-called small potato plants (the so-called Kartoffelbunker or Kartoffellagerhalle) are located at section BIa in the former KL Auschwitz II-Birkenau. To this day, very few documents that could be used to reconstruct the history of this building have survived. They include, among others plan of the location of the facility, named Kartoffellagerhalle, dated June 6, 1943 (Bauwerk 66, AuI). The building was built in 1943 and from the fall of that year until the camp's liquidation in January 1945, it served as a potato store."
