"Ken Follett has built a career on making enormous historical novels feel like page-turners. I really, really enjoyed ‘The Pillars of the Earth’, for example. It remains one of the finer examples of historical fiction; meticulously researched - somehow able to make cathedral construction utterly compelling."

"Today I’m feeling monochromatic. But in my case, that means I’m feeling happy! I’ve always liked writing with light, using only shades of gray—from pure white to perfect black."

"My next mission was with Yuna. I saw on the map that she was waiting for me in the Otsuna area. Word had reached me that Mongol soldiers had established a new base there and were tormenting the innocent locals. Yuna was trying to stop them on her own, so I felt I needed to assist her. Without delay, I mounted my horse and set out to join her."
