They're known by many names, and many people are unaware of their might. They're sneaky! They can slowly build up nerve pain through electrochemical impulses. The worst part is that the pain is located away from these points that are injured, or knotted into contraction. It's called referred pain.
My pain had built up over several months. I cannot recall when the pain began to wake me up at night. I had spent over six months sleeping on an air mattress. Dumb.
Much of the time I was too busy to worry about it; I was only convinced that pain killers were not going to enter my life. So I continued to suffer. One early morning after very little sleep I started researching pain. I found much information on fibromyalgia with no real comparison to my own ailments. My left knee was swollen and warm to the touch. My right hand was nearly numb, and my right shoulder was frozen. Now that I think about it, those were also the conditions of my finances then.
During my internet search I continued entering key words and phrases hoping even one hit would hold the key to my suffering. Acupuncture and Acupressure were informative, but did not have any self-healing techniques. Information on Edgar Cayce remedies led me to massage therapy. But still, no value for my conditions.
Then I found it! Trigger Point therapy. The online book reference had enough information for me to know it was speaking to me.
That was more than ten years ago. I immediately made plans to purchase the book and started reading the instructions on pain relief. Not being a nurse, massage therapist, or any type of health practitioner, the terms were all new to me. But I started easy and continued until I was ready to start the self-healing. It was truly amazing!
I had thought with despair that I may need a cane for the rest of my life or get knee replacement surgery. And I thought I may not be able to work because of the swelling and discomfort in my hand. The stiffness and pain in my shoulder was the biggest worry.
I need to add that the healing did not happen overnight. I spent hours reading the self-instruction manual before I tried the first relief, which was my knee. I located two trigger points on either side of my knee which were very tender. It actually scared me. I performed the mechanics of soothing the point and nothing changed -- until five days later. The hand and shoulder were the most mysterious of the mechanics because the trigger point was located far from the pain. But after one week I was literally jumping with joy.
Since then, I have referenced those instructions many times. I have helped family and friends with their pain, and even purchased instructions for them. I even purchased tools to help with the mechanics. There are different canes that have a knob or ball that can move the pain out.
I know a few people who depend upon prescription pain killers for relief. I am against strong prescriptions for obvious reasons. I hope some of this information can help.
