That's the realization from a family member's chiropractic care. He was born by caesarean section. Not until 30 years later did the family understand the reason for his waddling walk, stumbling, and imbalance. There were other physical and mental conditions that were present, and assumed all other conditions were related to a post-natal infection.
After hearing advertisements for a local National Upper Cervical Care Association chiropractor, I convinced the family to take him to get x-rays of his Atlas. That's the upper cervical area of the neck that connects to the brain stem. We ruled out back surgery for him because there was no pain involved.
All the patients in the waiting room who were on their 2nd, 3rd visit were happy and grateful for the reduction of pain. At first we were reluctant to think much could be done because, again, there was no pain involved in his condition.
Little did we know that subluxation of the Atlas vertebrae could cause stumbling, imbalance, and even brain fog. After consultation, an X-ray, and a leg-length check, the chiropractic doctor informed us that his Atlas was twisted 10%. We were astonished! After over 30 years was there any hope?
The chiropractor explained that a first indication of improper alignment of the neck vertebrae was a difference in leg length. The care would involve leg checks for several weeks, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation therapy technology.
The first adjustment for him came within the week. It was an unusual procedure because there was no snapping or cracking of the spine. The x-ray had given the chiropractor the exact point of adjustment necessary. Just a soft touch pressure was used and he was up on his feet. Leg length checks were taken, height was taken, and hip rotation check. The doctor was pleased with the results.
He gained 3/4 of an inch after one gentle adjustment.
Slowly over the weeks, the gait began to balance. This was a man who had been out of balance since birth! The language skills and social interactions improved. There was even indication of cognitive improvement.
After several years, and what is called annual maintenance visits, he returned this year to find he needed an adjustment. It's not unusual because the body is always moving. After looking back over the past few months, the family realized he had been stumbling a little. After the visit to the doctor - Leg imbalance- Corrected. Subluxation-and Inflammation of the ligaments - Improving.
NUCCA Chiropractors must go to many months of additional education and testing. It may be difficult to find this type of specialized care in your immediate area.
