Gold Test : Finding a genuine Human Being - Sanskrit teaching
It is next to impossible to find a good human being in todays time. Every person try to present themselves and pretend to be the best or bestest of all. It is like cheating, or fooling either themselves or other. It becomes difficult to even put a person on check.
But recently, I came across this old saying in sanskrit, which literally teaches us to find a genuine person.
यथा चतुर्भिः कनकं परीक्ष्यते निघर्षणच्छेदनतापताडनैः|
तथा चतुर्भिः पुरुषः परीक्ष्यते त्यागेन शीलेन गुणेन कर्मणा||
Yathaa chaturbhih kanakam pareekshyate nigharshana - chedana - taapa - taadanaih.
Tathaa chaturbhih purushah pareekshyate tyaagena sheelena gunena karmanaa.
my own doodle work
Yathaa = for instance.
Chaturbhih = in four ways.
Kanakam = Gold.
Pareekshyate = is subjected to tests. Nigharshana = rubbing.
Chedan = cutting.
Taapa = heating.
Taadanaih = hitting.
Tathaa = in the same manner.
Purushah = a person.
Tyagena= by sacrifice.
Sheelena = good character.
Gunena = virtues.
Karmanaa = by (good) deeds.
In these line the old school of scholars wanted to state that that , "like the purity of Gold is tested by four methods, namely (i) by rubbing it on a touch stone,(ii) by cutting it into pieces,(iii) by heating it and (iv) by beating it, in the same manner the calibre of a person is also tested by four methods, namely (i) by the instinct of sacrifice in him (ii) by his character (iii) by his virtues, and (iv)by his good deeds."
These four parameters allow us to find a true and genuine person. Though it is hard to find one, as these quality are hard to find.
