If i had my way, i would choose not to be a Nigerian anymore, i will deny my nationality with neither regret nor shame. If i had my way, i would also change my nationality without a second thought for many reasons. If i had my way, i would also have left this country many years ago, and that too without the thought of having to come back home someday. I am a Nigerian not by choice but by lack of choice. If i had the opportunity to travel out of this country tomorrow, i will be hopping on that flight never to come back again. Done and dusted. This is how bad the reputation of my country has become in the last couple of decades…
Honestly, I find it very funny and also quite annoying when I’m being asked a question like “which country are you from” or “where are you from” by anyone, especially by an interviewer for a remote job. Whenever a question like this is being asked anywhere, I always find myself thinking twice before answering such question, and that’s because claiming to be a Nigerian itself is enough to be disqualified for the job. In a situation like this, will you blame me if i change my nationality? No, but then I can’t do that for many reasons…
Remote jobs have become nearly impossible for we Nigerians because of our bad reputation. It has gotten bad to the extent that we are now seen as scammers and thieves. Honestly, I can’t blame them for seeing us that way, i blame those who made it that way. The most annoying aspect of this whole thing is that we the innocent ones are the ones paying dearly for the mistakes of others, which is very bad and unfortunate…
Scam and Nigeria are two words you will always find together in a sentence. I was on instagram a couple of weeks ago and i came across a Nigerian influencer who goes by the name on IG. This man is known to be very respectful, he is also respected by many people in Nigeria, including all the big celebrities we have here in our country…
I was on his page that very day and i saw a content of his where he was bashing adetola;- Nigerian celeb who is now a big shot abroad and also now claiming to be a citizen of theirs. She happened to be on Kai Cenat’s live on Twitch I think, along Kai Cenat was also Kevin Hart and one other guy in the room. Adetola who happened to be a breed of ours was asked her name, and from the way she pronounced it, Kai, Kevin and the other guy were forced to ask her Where she was from…
The other guy popped up the question; “Where are you from?”, with the two top celebrities in the room and the answer she gave to them was that, She was from the Scammers Country. She said this on Kai Cenats livestream where millions of people are streaming. Imagine, see the way our own people are tarnishing our image further abroad…
I didn’t even expect what Kevin said as a respond to that. He said that was bad and that he wouldn’t have said something like that for any reason. Can you see, even Kevin Hart saw how wrong that was. She just further damaged our reputation, and she didn’t even do that anywhere, she did it on Kai Cenat’s livestream, which is said to always have the highest number of views every time…
This is how bad the country has become, even our people abroad have made sure this is something we will find very hard ti recover from…
Scammers; that’s the one thing my country is known for, and honestly I can’t blame them because that’s what some of the people in my country has resulted into, the one that has happened on hive is an evidence, and that is why I can’t completely blame them for painting all Nigerians the same. I blame the bad eggs amongst us…
In summary, I think the only good thing our country is known for is its JOLLOF. Oh yeah, our Jollof and soup delicacies are the only good things we are known for. Apart from that, nothing else…
In conclusion, lack of trust and loss of opportunities is what these claims has brought to us. I just hope one day everything gets better and the trust our country lost, we will be and to get them back…
