Polar Vertex is a weather phenomenon that is characterized with upper level low-pressure area of an air mass found near the two Earth's pole. This air mass rotates counterclockwise in the north pole and clockwise in the south pole. The polar vortex strengthens during the winter and weakens during the summer due to the temperature difference between the equator and the poles.
