Hello, everyone, I would like to share my activity in my village helping to barbecue satay for a wedding reception.
It was early morning at about 7, I arrived at my neighbor house whose daughter was getting married that day. Many of the people dressed in traditional Balinese clothes, who live in the same village also arrived at about the same time with me.
The wedding guests was scheduled to come at 11. People were busy preparing for different kind of food for example, steamed rice, fried rice, soup, curry, cakes, satay and coffee, tea and soft drink.
Cooking is not an area of my expertise, so I chose the easiest cooking. And that was barbecuing the pork satay.
First, we lit some firewood in a used drum that had been cut/divided by two. This was the stove. There were two barbecue stoves available that time.
A friend of mine prepared the satay to be barbecued. There were lots of satay to be barbecued.
After struggling for a while, the fire was not lit, instead, thick smoke came out from the barbecue stove. At the end, we managed to have the fire on. Then it left ember on the bottom of the stove.
We put the satay on the top of barbecue stoves. And the barbecue started.
There were a lot of satay to grill. We finished 3 hours later. People had a good conversation during the barbecue. I enjoyed listening to their conversation, some times I just nodded and said yes. Mostly they talked about life and things going on in the village.
I found the cooking was a bit too long, there were not enough stoves. Luckily, we manage to finish as the guest started to come.
