The Agra Fort has a very rich history. It was originally a brick structure that belong to the Chauhan family.They were Rajputs.
Rajputs ere people from Rajasthan,and are known to be strong,brave and heroic.
The rulers of the Lodhi dynasty made Agra their capital. It was then captured by the first Mughal ruler Babur. He defeated Ibrahim Lodhi in the battle of Panipat in the year 1526.Babur found a vast treasure in the fort including the Kohinoor diamond.
Babur's son Humayun also ruled from the Agra Fort. When Akbar become the ruler,the fort was called Badalgarh and was in a ruined condition. Many parts of the building were in a dilapidated condition.
He rebuilt it with red stone. So it came to be known as LAL QUILA or the RED FORT of Agra.
1,444,000 builders took eight years to comlete it.
35 laks was spent on of red fort. This was a incredibly large amount of money in those days.
Akbar got 500 buildings cinstructed inside the Agra Fort.
So,it was a cimplete city in itself. The design of this fort was inspired from Bengal and Gujarat.
Unfortunately, today only 30 buildings structures are left other got destroyed in different wars.
