Yesterday, I went to meet a group of musical friends at an outdoor open mic night at 'The Angels' Share' in Hitchin, UK. For those that don't know what the 'Angels' Share' means, it's the 2 percent of whiskey that escapes through evaporation and drifts up to the heavens, during the distilling and ageing process.
It was another cold evening in the UK so we were all bundled up in coats, hats and gloves. We had a fantastic authentic curry as is the norm there. The place is run by a very nice couple who cook great food and love live music. We have been very lucky to be able to go there and perform outdoors. Whilst the virus has been prevalent, indoor open mics have been a risky thing to take part in.
For one of my songs, I chose to do a cover of a tune I'd heard on the radio a few days before. I remember it being in the charts in 1999, when Madness made a bit of a comeback. 'Lovestruck' is a song which seems to be about the 1990's binge drinking culture in the UK. It mentions fighting, mumbling on and falling in love with a lamp post. I've always loved Madness and I know a lot of their songs....(and all the lyrics to Baggy Trousers).
This song has such a wide rage in pitch that it just made me laugh when I sung it. I made a couple of mistakes but I hope you'll enjoy it anyway.
