Have you ever felt that fear of not being up to the task of accomplishing a goal?
Me, more than I should. Although I have many ideas and sewing projects, sometimes this fear stops me, because I think I won't know how to do it or it won't look good.
There is also that feeling that remains when I tried before and it didn't turn out well, despite following the directions and the pattern.
¿Has sentido alguna vez ese temor de no estar a la altura para cumplir una meta?
Yo, más de lo que debería. Y es que, aunque tengo muchas ideas y proyectos de costura, en ocasiones este temor me detiene, pues, pienso que no lo sabré hacer o no me quedara bien.
Está también esa sensación que queda cuando se intentó antes y no salió bien, a pesar de seguir las indicaciones y el patrón.
Besides, as we all know, in sewing, if you make a mistake cutting the fabric, it is likely to get damaged, you can no longer make what you thought and then you have to spend more money to buy fabric.
All of this I feel at times limited me. On the other hand, last year I decided to buy some fabrics to make sweaters and flannels because the ones I have are already worn out and ugly. I really need to update some things in my closet. I wanted to start doing it in December, but I always postponed it.
So when I read the wonderful community challenge, I felt like it was an answer to my sewing goals. It was like a gentle, but energetic push to finally go for what I want to achieve so badly. I quickly got to work 🙌🏻
Obviously, my list is slightly long 😅, but now I have the opportunity to cross off step by step, at least several things on it.
Además, como muy bien sabemos, en la costura, si uno se equivoca cortando la tela, es probable que se dañe, ya no puedas hacer lo que pensabas y luego se tenga que gastar más dinero en comprar tela.
Todo esto siento que a veces me limitaba. Por otra parte, el año pasado decidí comprar algunas telas para hacerme suéteres y franelas porque las que tengo ya están gastadas y feas. De verdad necesito actualizar algunas cosas en mi guardarropas. Quería empezar a hacerlo en Diciembre, pero siempre lo posponia.
Por eso, cuando leí el maravilloso reto comunitario, sentí que era una respuesta a mis metas de costura. Fue como un suave, pero enérgico impulso para por fin ir por aquello que tanto quiero lograr. Puse manos a la obra rápidamente 🙌🏻
Obviamente, mi lista es ligeramente larga 😅, pero ahora tengo la oportunidad de ir tachando paso a paso, por lo menos varias cosas en ella.
The first one, and it's the one I want to share with you today, is this floral sweater I made myself. I went alone to the store to buy the fabric and when I got home my older brother laughed at me when he saw it, because he told me that it looked like grandma's fabric 😐 😂 That I should have bought another one.
It really made me doubt, but since I had already bought it, I sewed the sweater anyway 😁
I took my base blouse pattern, cut out the front, back and sleeve pieces. I joined at the shoulders, made a mark in the middle of the sleeve so that it would be well placed and sewed.
El primero, y es el que quiero compartirles hoy, es este suéter floral que me hice. Fui sola a la tienda a comprar la tela y cuando llegue a casa mi hermano mayor al verla se rio de mí, pues me dijo que pareciera tela de abuela 😐 😂 Que hubiera comprado otra.
De verdad que me hizo dudar, pero como ya la había comprado, igualmente me cosí el suéter 😁
Tomé mi patrón base de blusa, corté las piezas delantera, trasera y las mangas. Uni por los hombros, hice una marca a la mitad de la manga para que quedara bien ubicada y cosí.
Since I wanted to put cuffs on the sleeves and bias binding on the neckline, that was the first obstacle. I didn't know how to do it correctly 😬
I asked and asked to try to figure out how, but I couldn't come up with a guide that I understood. So I opted to mix and match ideas as they occurred to me.
I tried several cuff widths to see how many centimeters I liked the way it looked. I decided that 5 cm was fine. So I subtracted 5 1/2 cm from the sleeve length (5 cm + 1/2 cm seam allowance).
Como quería colocarle puños a las mangas y sesgo al cuello, ahí vino el primer obstáculo. Yo no sabía cómo hacerlo de manera correcta 😬
Pregunte y pregunté para tratar de averiguar cómo, pero no di con una guía que yo entendiera. Así que opte por ir mezclando ideas según se me ocurría.
Probé varios anchos de puño a ver de cuántos centímetros me gustaba como se veía. Decidí que de 5 cm estaba bien. Por eso, al largo de las mangas les resté 5 1/2 cm (5 cm + 1/2 cm de margen de costura).
For the collar, I did the same thing, I tried different widths to see which one I liked. I wanted the same 5 cm and, to know the length of the strip, I measured the total length of the collar minus a quarter of it. This way it won't be too loose or too stretched.
Taking all these counts out I was type😂:
Para el cuello, hice lo mismo, probé distintos anchos a ver cuál me gustaba. Quise igual de 5 cm y, para saber el largo de la tira, medí el total del cuello menos la cuarta parte del mismo. Así no quedará ni muy flojo ni muy estirado.
Sacando todas estas cuentas estaba tipo 😂:
Then, I closed the sides. I fixed everything with straight and zigzag, making marks on the fabric and cuffs/sleeve so that it would be evenly stretched.
And, because I wanted to match nature, I ironed the seams of my sweater, got ready and went to take this picture.
Finally, I told my friend Amanda Dudamel that I had already started being a "dream designer" with this creation 💜
Luego, cerré los costados. Todo lo fijé con recta y zigzag, haciendo marcas en la tela y los puños /sesgo para qué quedara estirado uniformemente.
Y, como quería combinar con la naturaleza, planche las costuras de mi suéter, me arreglé y fui a tomarme esta foto.
Finalmente, le dije a mi amiga Amanda Dudamel que ya yo había empezado a ser "diseñadora de sueños" con esta creación 💜
