I spent some time recently photographing the night roads that wind around one of the mountains in my city. This area is quite difficult to work with at this hour due to the intense darkness, which hides most of the landscape and makes setting up a shot a really hard task. However, the final results usually make the effort worthwhile. Using the artificial light from the street lamps, I managed to capture these quiet paths surrounded by thick vegetation.
The darkness creates a deep, heavy atmosphere that is hard to manage when trying to keep things sharp. Without the light from the poles, there would be nothing to see but shadows. I had to focus on how those small patches of artificial light cut through the gloom. In a few of the shots, you can see the distant glow of the city lights in the background, which adds a bit of perspective to the darkness, but those aren't the most interesting ones to me.
There is something specific about being on a solitary road surrounded by wild vegetation when the night is at its peak. For some reason, the street light hitting the pavement in the middle of the darkness actually increases the sense of solitude instead of breaking it. It isolates the road, making it feel like the only place in existence. It is a quiet, almost heavy feeling that is hard to explain but very easy to capture on camera if you are patient enough with your settings.
Taking these pictures requires a lot of trial and error with the camera exposure. You have to balance the brightness of the lamps against the absolute black of the mountain forest. It is a slow process, but there is something about the silence of the mountain at night that makes it worth the time. It is a good way to clear your head after a busy week.

Por algún motivo, la luz del poste que golpea el asfalto en medio de la oscuridad en realidad aumenta la sensación de soledad en lugar de romperla. Aísla el camino, haciendo que se sienta como el único lugar existente. Es un sentimiento tranquilo, casi pesado, que es difícil de explicar pero muy fácil de capturar con la cámara si tienes la paciencia suficiente con tus ajustes.
