I own a bowtie! Perhaps even two (plus a red one that I've never used). I used to have to wear the black ones all the time when I performed as part of a symphonic band. I had to wear a full tuxedo and everything, including a cumberbund and cuff links. The only thing I didn't have was coattails on my blazer!
When my sister got married, I wore a suit with a standard tie, not a bowtie.
