The word "sorry" is a big word with magic because it calms things down, prevents any further argument, and repairs things that are about to get damaged or ruined. Saying sorry means you truly acknowledge what you have done wrong, or when you know you have hurt or harmed someone, and you try to make amends willingly by expressing your regret and not repeating such again. Saying sorry when you mean it goes a long way in healing a person's heart.
When you say sorry, it means you are taking responsibility for the actions you have made and realizing the impact they had on another person.
Naturally, men have egos and some would go out of their way to say "I am sorry" just to avoid an argument. The truth is that some men do not have the argument stamina women have and instead of proving they are the head of the family, they succumb and let the argument be over, thereby making their woman smile and happy.
There are so many instances where saying sorry can be hard. One instance could be a person who needs to apologize when he or she feels a sense of shame and guilt. This feeling makes them retreat from saying the word because they are afraid they might be disgraced, and to avoid this, they find it hard to say sorry which makes the matter escalate. When saying sorry is difficult in a tight situation that could be resolved easily, it could make matter worse and that is the end of it.
Another instance is when a person does not see anything wrong in an action and feels they do not need to apologize. This can happen when there is a misunderstanding and the person have a different perspective on the matter or issue.
Not saying the word sorry led to the death of a wife from a real-life story I heard years ago. Both couples had a disagreement which makes none of them apologize. The man felt he was right, same with the wife. Though, both of them go to church in the same car so as not to attract any suspicion on them. When they returned from church on a Sunday, the man angrily left the car and went upstairs. No one talked to each other in the house until the day became the worst experience ever.
The wife was an asthmatic patient and because she left her inhaler upstairs, she was still in the car when she kept calling her husband on the phone to bring her inhaler. She was gasping hard.
The husband saw her calling consistently but didn't pick up as he wasn't ready to talk to her. Until she died, it became clearer to him that he should have apologized a long time ago to make peace reign. Sorry, can build and at the same time destroy things.
Sincerely, I don't see anything bad in saying sorry because it doesn't remove one strand of your hair. Saying sorry when it's obvious you are right does not stop you from moving ahead in life. A man who says sorry is great.
Something I tell people is that saying sorry when you aren't at fault doesn't make you a fool or dummy, it's just you wanting to let peace reign, and that action makes you a responsible person. You can be the wise person over the other fellow.
One thing I am always scared of, that makes me want to always say sorry all the time is that something bad can happen anytime. We do not know what tomorrow may bring to us. The person we refuse to say sorry to can sleep and not wake up again. Refusing to apologize could be late when you die, so, do you want to go to heaven with an unforgiving heart?
Remember what the Bible says about those who do not forgive? This is something I am always scared of. I value every minute of my life and am careful to always utter the word "I am sorry" every single moment when the opportunity is still open.
Apart from that, we don't know where we can meet ourselves later in life. Refusing to say sorry today might bring enmity between you and that person which could later stop you from getting an opportunity in the future. Besides that, saying sorry heals more quickly than proving to be stubborn and not ready to say the word and move on.
I found myself in a situation where I had to say sorry because I admitted it was my wrong.
Some people have the habit of borrowing your items and will not return them to their actual place. It always hurt me and will not say anything; I will always return it myself and keep quiet. On this normal day, I was in a bad mood and when I wanted to use my bucket, someone had taken it without my permission, I was so angry that I said unconsciously "who is the stupid person that took my bucket?"
I didn't know a friend and neighbor was using it to wash her clothes outside. She heard me and was like "I am the stupid person". Immediately, I felt so ashamed and guilty for my action. I should have been patient to look for it but I reacted based on the same thing that has been happening for a long time in the compound. I should have kept quiet but this day changed it all for me.
For another person, they may decide it was nothing and they do not need to apologize if they were to react based on other similar occurrences. My mind wasn't at peace. My conscience kept telling me what I did was wrong. Quickly, I went to her, knelt, and begged her. I kept saying "I am sorry" and was emotional that my eyes turned red.
She saw me and also responded saying she has accepted. We later laughed over it and still joked about a lot of things together with other neighbors. Since that day, I was careful not to react immediately to things like that unless I have searched and seen that my stuff was taken and wasn't returned to its place. Though, nothing like that happened after that day.
In conclusion, saying sorry can be a sign of humility and a desire to learn from your mistakes. This will help you build trust and respect with others.
