Just as the adage in your first paragraph, those looking at the horse in the forefront are following blindly because someone who opens his eyes will definitely retreat, seeing his leader falling into a ditch so as not to fall too. Lol
You know sometimes, we can´t actually blame the onboarder because they did their best in explaining but they just haven´t taken time to study whoever they are bringing on board.
There was a time I invited someone. The guy is a writer on another platform and he was interested in joining Hive. I took my time to explain the dos and don´ts of the platform but it seems he was bent on going his way by taking all his previous posts from another platform and posting here.
Checking his blog, I noticed this and kept warning him to read the community´s rule or not crosspost because Hive is against that, but he never listened until he was banned.
Also, the onboarder needs to carefully see if who he is bringing isn´t the kind of person who is not after the money but willing to put in more effort. This is why when someone comes to me, I ask if he or she is ready to be patient and consistent before I waste my time. In fact, I go ahead to make them know how strict Hive is and not a place you post things when you haven´t familiarized yourself first. This has saved me from wasting my time.
