Friends: Remembering the good old days. Relishing some moments.

It is usually said that twenty children cannot play for twenty years, that is something I have always been worried over when I realize we only have a limited time even if it takes months, or years to stay connected and together, but someday, everyone will part ways. It will become a moment of reminiscing the past and missing them around you, wishing you could turn the hand of the clock back and live in those memories again and again. It always hurts me when, after being together for a purpose and when the purpose has been fulfilled, we start to feel emotional wishing things should not end that way, but that is life for us; we keep moving to find better opportunities for ourselves to live a comfortable life.
This was towards the end of our 3 years course at the University where we studied Guidance and Counselling. We were slowly bidding our farewell and that moment got me worried because I wouldn't be seeing them again except in the future. I started flashing back to our first day in school, how we met, the way we moved together and one would think we were siblings. Wherever you see one, you will see the other two. We moved like snails that do not leave each other when crawling. I remembered the happy and sad moments, the fight, the gist, the encouragement, the pieces of advice and so on. My stay in school was fun because of these two ladies. They have been so nice and caring, they love to share their problems with me, wanting me to give my opinion and the way we acted like sisters was so real.
It's been months since we have seen each other, except we chat once in a while. I decided to call them last week and I felt peace and relief doing that because I didn't say that if they did not reach out to me, I wouldn't either. I understand that life has made everyone busy and trying to survive by doing what we need to do. I understand that it is the next stage of our lives where we can only get to talk to ourselves when we have the time and not feel bad because no one reached out to each other. That would be selfish of me to think that they should always call me and I wouldn't take a step to give them a call.
The first lady in the picture is married and currently pregnant. We attended her wedding last year. Even when it was not convenient for me, I squeezed out time for her as a friend would do. The other lady got engaged in April this year and soon would be getting married to the love of her life. They also want the same for me but I wouldn't want to rush things as I believe when the time is right, I will get married to the love of my life.
I have never regretted my friendship with these girls and I wouldn't want to cut off from them. Someday, I believe we will see again and be merry, flashing back to the good old days. The married one is in the East right now with her husband while the other lady is not that far away since we both are in the Western States, only that the distance is a little bit far.

The three of us registered for Nysc this year in July thinking we would serve together and enjoy the next stage of life. But as God would have it, our plans went a different way. While I couldn't go for service because of the unexpected circumstances that happened in my family, both of them were mobilised to different states and they are currently serving. She sent me her photo with her putting on her Khaki uniform which every corps member wear. I was happy and hoped for the best for me too. The one that is married hasn't sent me her photo, neither has she uploaded any on her status for me to see what is happening. Whatever it is, I want to believe her decision and let it stay that way, but I appreciate my engaged friend who sent me her photo.
I was at home yesterday as I didn't go to church, I put a call through her and we talked for over 40 minutes while we both were laughing and looking back to how things were for us. We remembered some funny, cruel, nice lecturers back in our University days and we shared our experiences with them. How we were able to study hard just to come out with good grades. I asked her if she was hearing from our other friend and she promised to call her as soon as she dropped the call which I believe she would have done so. We both promised ourselves to meet someday since we aren't far from each other, except for our third friend who is in the east enjoying her marriage and one-year service.
I am looking forward to the day we would plan a hangout together irrespective of our location. At least when there is love, distance is not a barrier. The purpose of the hangout is to share our achievements so far, how life has been dealing with us so far and how we have been enduring and coping with the challenges that keep showing up. I want to believe that everything will be going smoothly for them and till we meet, I hope for more happiness and peace for them and myself.
