I love who I have always been and one of my habits is wanting to do anything that involves me as soon as possible. I hate waiting time or procrastinating, I swing into action as soon as possible as long as nothing is preventing me from doing so.
I have been doing so many things with money since I was in secondary school because I started working in a business center when I was in JSS3 as a graphic designer so I have been making little money since then.
One adage says that "Owo ti Omode ba koko ri akara lo ma fi je" (the first time a child earns money he or she will definitely waste it) but mine wasn't like that because I was old enough to understand what my mom and my siblings are going through before we can eat one meal per day so I couldn't waste my money when I started working.
At first, my mom took me to the center to learn how to work on computer packages which I quickly grabbed because I know that it will be very useful for me in school. I noticed that our computer teacher doesn't know much about computer packages, the knowledge he had was outdated.
I do make use of the computer packages knowledge to earn in school because our teacher always gives us assignments on Corel draw, excel and others which other students don't know how to use in our class so they will contribute money and give me then I will help all the class to do their assignment in our shop and take it to school the next day.
Along the line, I was able to move closer to the guy teaching us at the center and because he always sends me food in the afternoon which makes him fond of me, I used the opportunity to learn something else from him like web design, printing, and others.
After I finish the training, my boss noticed that am good at almost everything and she employed me as one of her staff but I always resume work after school in the afternoon.
The very first time I collected my salary I was happy and I quickly rush home to give my mom the money and guess what she said: "now that you are earning salary will you help me with your school fee because I haven't seen it yet"
My junior sister and I are in the same class because we got admission together so that means we must pay our school fees at the same time and my salary came in at the right time.
My mom paid for my sister while I paid for myself, the feeling of doing something for myself made me want to do more and more.
The next month I use part of my salary to buy school sandals, textbooks for me and my junior sister and that is how I began to help my mom with my salary and I was very happy doing it because it was a relief for her.
When I finish secondary school, I needed more money to go to University so I called my elder sister that lives in Lagos, and told her that I want to follow her to Lagos so that I can make more money and she took me with her.
I got a job in a factory back then and my first salary was much more than that of business center own, I felt so good because I will have to increase the money I use to give my mom and have enough to save up for my university school fee.
Let's just say that I started taking care of myself when I was little because I started earning salary at a very tender age.
