Childhood memories are beautiful ones for everyone because then we have no worries, no enemies or grudges against anyone, we just want to play and have fun.

I have so many unreasonable things I did as a child, but then I never knew I was just making a fool of myself. I did a few things just as some kids did and then I thought it worked for them since they didn't come back to give me feedback whether it worked or not.

When my dad died, we moved to the church where he attended and we were given a room apartment. There was a time when people were asked to contribute some money because the church was having a mountain program that happens every year at Agelu, the place serves as a camp for white garment churches.

Because of the trip, I started a daily contribution with my feeding allowance. I have heard beautiful stories about the place and couldn't wait any longer to see the place so I paid for my transport without my mom's permission.

The day came and the 24-passenger bus that was supposed to carry us came and my mom said, "None of her children must enter the bus". That sounded funny to me but knew my mom would never allow me to go like she said.

So before anyone entered the bus, I had to squeeze myself under the chair even though I nearly died of heat I didn't mind, as long as I would follow them to the mountain. We got to the mountain before my mom noticed I followed them, and with the way she looked at me, I knew I had to visit God in heaven and come back before she forgave me.

I was able to learn things there which included some drums we didn't have in our church. On our way back, she couldn't stop staring at me and I knew what that meant. I thought about different ways to get away with the crime, then I remembered what one of my classmates told me, she said once she offended her mom she always removed some hair from her body and then dropped it at the entrance of her mom's bed and that once her mom stepped on it she will forget to beat her.

I smiled as if I won a jackpot and immediately we got home, I ran to one corner to remove some of my eyelashes, and hair from my nose and then from my head then went back to our apartment. I looked around and made sure nobody was looking so I dropped it, then hid where I could see if my mom stepped on it.

Immediately my mom came out and stepped on what I put on the ground, I was relieved to come outside and I went inside our room while she acted as if she had forgotten. At midnight she woke me with a cane in her hand and that was when I realized all the magic I did didn't work on her.

Anytime I remember that day I always laugh at myself for thinking such a petty thing could actually make my mom forget not to beat me. Well, I was a child and that was all I could do.
