The Cure
Buh buh buh buh, buh buh buh buh went the graduation music. Dale had always had an ardor for science and was finally graduating from Harvard University with a masters in science. He could feel his comfortable silky smooth graduation cloths. Except for a pesky tag on the neck of the cloths. Dale felt his heart racing in his chest. Dale was always a worrier, he worried about tripping and falling in front of everyone on the stage. This always made his senses heightened. He could practically taste the chocolate cake with blue icing saying congratulations class of 2018 on the top that he had been looking forward to almost as much as getting his diploma. As dale walked by some flowers on the way to the stage, he smelled them and it reminded him of a cool summer day. He remembered back to when he was little and picked out flowers with his Mom in their garden.
The big auditorium was full of decorations all colored black and blue, his graduation colors. Dale admired the great job that the staff who set up the decorations had done. He especially liked all the blue decorations because it was his favorite color. But dale only had color that he constantly thought of, pink. The same color that represents the breast cancer that Dale's Mom has. It took only been discovered a week before Dale's graduation and had taken a real toll on everyone in his family. From when he got that news he knew what he wanted to research and find a cure for first. As Dale walked up to the president of the college he felt a huge sense of joy and accomplishment. When he shook the very sweaty hand of the president of the college and received his diploma he thought back to all that happened to get him to where he was now.
Dale had grown up all his life in Travers City Michigan, and had gone to a pretty good school. There weren't really many big things that happened in his life. Except for the time that his parents won the lottery and got $500,000 which couldn't have come at a better time when Dale was about a month old. Luckily his parents didn’t spend all the money at once and saved some in Dale's college fund and the rest for times they really needed it, and the money did come in handy since he went to Harvard.
As soon as the graduation party was over, Dale's priority was getting a lab to research cancer. He looked long and hard for a lab close to home but came up with nothing. But one day he was talking it over with his previous dorm roommate and found out that his Dad had a lab in Los Angeles California. So his roommate John gave him his Dad's number. Fortunately John's Dad wasn't really using his lab much anymore and told Dale that he was welcome to use it. Dale immediately agreed and booked the first flight to California. Then Dale packed his bags and said goodbye to his Mom. While he was on the flight he couldn't believe his luck on finding a lab. Even though it was on the other side of the country.
After about 3 hours of researching and coming up with ideas about possible cures he, he fell asleep. 2 hours later he was woken up by the pilot's voice saying to stay everyone's seat while the plane descended. At last the plane finally came in for landing, Dale looked out at Los Angeles and thought about his Mom back at home, and how he would find a cure for Cancer.
When Dale got to the lab, he was amazed by how big it was and that he could use it all by himself with nobody else to annoy him. He took out his phone and started to call Mike's Dad.
"Hello" Said Dale
"Hello, who is this?" Said Mike's Dad
"This is Dale Mosey, I just got to the lab and I would like to thank you so much for letting me use it, It really is state of the art!"
"Oh, no problem, I hope you can find a cure for breast cancer!"
"Me too."
"Well I'm going to start working so thank you so much again, you are a life saver!"
Dale then started on his ideas for a cure. He was 1 month in when he thought he had discovered it but was disappointed when it failed a trial on mice. The next 3 months were pretty slow at the lab and he was finally getting adjusted to Los Angeles. The first of many mini-earthquakes really scared him, but he had gotten used to it now.
One day Dale was continuing research when he got a phone call, when he got over to his phone he saw that his Mom was calling.
"Hi Mom, how's everything going?" Said Dale.
"Hi Dale, and it's actually not going to well."
"What, why?"
"My cancer has progressed a lot in the past months and radiation has failed and the doctors say that I only have 1 week to live."
This made Dale tremulous and he teared up, there was not anything that could assuage the tears, but it also gave him a profusion of energy to find a cure. He told his Mom that he would finish up a few tests on the latest possible cure and then he would come home to see her. Dale had gotten closer on this cure then any other previous experiment, all he had to do was to test it on some mice. But there was no time for that. He decided to scrap the last few tests and catch the next flight back to Michigan. So he gathered up some vials of the cure and raced to the airport.
When he was got there he was extremely happy to find out that there was a plane that left in 30 minutes. He paid for his ticket and almost missed the flight because of a long TSA line. While on the plane the only thing on his mind was getting home before his Mom died and hoping that the cure would work. He was so focused in on his hoping that he didn't hear the pilot say to fasten everyone's seat belt because of turbulence. When they hit a really bad patch it made Dale loose a grip on the vile and it almost fell onto the ground. Luckily Dale could grapple the vile and avoided a catastrophe. The rest of flight was pretty uneventful but still very nerve racking for Dale. When he got off the plane he was kind of sore from staying in the same position for over 5 hours but that was not going to stop him from getting to his Mom.
Dale raced as fast as he could to the hospital that his Mom was staying at. While driving he thought back to all the great times that he had with his Mom when he was a kid, which made him even more hopeful that the cure would work.
When Dale got to the hospital he almost yelled at the person working at the desk asking what room his Mom was in. As soon as she told him he ran to the nearest staircase, up to the second level. His Mom's room was at the end of the hallway and while he was running toward it he almost knocked right into a doctor walking out of another room. When he got into her room she looked very surprised and happy to see her son so soon. Then Dale told her that he might have a cure but didn't test it yet.
"Go ahead and give it to me then" said Dale's Mom.
Dale then gave the possible cure to his Mom. Nothing happened at first, but then his Mom started to feel better an MRI showed that the breast cancer did get smaller. A week later the cancer was completely gone. When he heard this he started to cry tears of joy and thought back to all that happened to get him to where he is now. Dale Mosey had just successfully made a cure for breast cancer. A week later he was on the front page of almost every news paper in the world and had changed the lives of millions of people.
