1. Situational awareness. A very broad term that might cover everything from recognizing that the feces is about to hit the air circulation unit 48 hours before others have figured it out, to reading people to understand quickly whether they’re a potential ally or a potential threat, to understanding the local geography in terms of access, escape, and safety in all its forms.

2. The skills and ability to purify water. Giardia is not your friend.

3. The ability to produce and store food. Lots of rice and beans stored in buckets are great for the short run, but they’ll eventually be depleted.
