I continue to be amazed by those who downplay COVID-19’s severity. They seem to exist in some alternate reality. Right now, here in the real world, COVID-19 is the leading cause of death in America. In 2018, the most recent year for which the CDC has published data, the leading cause of death was heart disease which killed 655,381 in the USA. Divided by 365, that works out to an average of 1,796 a day. The COVID Tracking Project shows that just yesterday, 2,477 people in America were taken from their families by the coronavirus. If we have the “dark winter” we keep hearing about, by January/February COVID-19 will be killing more people per day than heart disease and cancer combined.

Trump-appointed judge tosses Wisconsin suit
"A sitting president who did not prevail in his bid for reelection has asked for federal court help in setting aside the popular vote based on disputed issues of election administration, issues he plainly could have raised before the vote occurred."
"This Court has allowed plaintiff the chance to make his case and he has lost on the merits," the judge wrote.
"In his reply brief, plaintiff 'asks that the Rule of Law be followed' .... It has been," the judge continued.
Ludwig dismissed the lawsuit "with prejudice," underscoring his belief that Trump had no valid claim.
Trump’s spin on his big Supreme Court failure is as bad as his legal case
How the GOP Tried to Topple a Pillar of Democracy
The Supreme Court repudiation of President Trump’s desperate bid for a second term not only shredded his effort to overturn the will of voters: It also was a blunt rebuke to Republican leaders in Congress and the states who were willing to damage American democracy by embracing a partisan power grab over a free and fair election.
The court’s decision on Friday night, an inflection point after weeks of legal flailing by Mr. Trump and ahead of the Electoral College vote for President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Monday, leaves the president’s party in an extraordinary position. Through their explicit endorsements or complicity of silence, much of the G.O.P. leadership now shares responsibility for the quixotic attempt to ignore the nation’s founding principles and engineer a different verdict from the one voters cast on Election Day.
I want to be clear: the Supreme Court is not the deep state. The case had no merit and was dispatched 9-0. There was no win here. Complaining and bellyaching is not a manly trait, it’s actually sad. Real men accept a loss with grace.
