I had watched Inspector Morse decades ago when it was on broadcast TV and remembered it as a consistently excellent series. I’m now watching it again, this time with my wife who hadn’t seen it back in the day. Yes, mostly still excellent, but I’ve got to admit that there are a few stinker episodes with significant plot holes.

Netanyahu floats use of blockchain as solution to potential financial sanctions

Ahead of elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel could turn to blockchain and crypto to skirt potential international sanctions, to the dismay of opponents and the country’s central banker.

Iran:

Trump Has Just One Option Left On Gas Prices

…Donald Trump has just one way left to bring down gas prices: ending the Iran war.
Already, his administration has expanded access to red-dyed diesel; unlocked Russian diesel; waived the Jones Act; and tapped the U.S. strategic reserve in an effort to lower costs. Yet oil prices hit a five-month high today, even as Trump touted that Middle East exports were surpassing pre-war levels.

Covert Russian Group Meddles in Texas Senate Race

Even as President Trump pursued a thawing of relations with the Kremlin this week, a covert Russian influence operation targeted the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Texas, James Talarico, by spreading a fabricated claim of misconduct.
Several groups of researchers who track Russian disinformation operations attributed the claim to Storm-1516, a covert group that in 2024 peddled a similarly unfounded accusation against Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, who was the Democratic vice-presidential nominee.

Democrats Aim to Build Momentum with Epstein Ad Blitz

As the limits of where Democrats hope to win in 2026 creep further into reliably red territory, party operatives have been turning more often to a wedge issue that helped Donald Trump win in 2024 — disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
In Kansas, a state that Trump won by more than more than 16 points that is now considered a genuine pick-up opportunity for Democrats, one advertisement slams Republican Sen. Roger Marshall for his September 2025 vote to block the Epstein files release.

The DOJ Just Telegraphed Trump’s Biggest Election Target

With just days to go before November’s midterms, the Department of Justice ended this week by launching its most desperate and unprofessional assaults on the American election system yet.

How Tariffs Became the Most Hated Word in Politics

…Trump once called ‘tariff’ the most beautiful word in the dictionary. He has somehow made it one of the most hated words in politics.
In their midterm ads, Democrats repeatedly bash tariffs. Republicans, by contrast, are largely silent. One exception: Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers who calls to ‘end this tariff war now,’ while gripping a Canadian-brand beer, now caught up in Trump’s trade war.
The uglification of tariffs threatens not just Republicans’ midterm chances, but Trump’s own legacy.

Military Boards Are Letting Trans Troops Serve

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used a slur to proudly announce to an auditorium of Marines in September that he was ridding the military of all transgender troops.
But just steps from the auditorium where Mr. Hegseth spoke, at Marine Corps Base Quantico, boards assigned to carry out those orders were doing the opposite. Instead of firing trans Marines, the boards were voting to keep them.
The same was happening in the Navy: Boards given strict rules instructing them to force out sailors were rebelling and voting to let them stay.
