Hi everyone
My geetings to you all
Hope you are doing well
Well today, I am going to share my throwback trip to one of my most favourite places., Golden Temple, Sri Harmandir Sahib in the city of Amritsar (North Indian State Punjab, India)
We visited this place on 27th December last year. It was so cold then just like now. As we reached Amritsar, raindrops start falling down the sky so once we thought of returning back but then we gave it a try. And thank God the rain stopped. And we were able to enter that blessed peaceful place.
Once I discussed with my friend @kemmyb, about Amritsar. She was curious to know about this city. And this is my humble attempt to share the best known to me. Sorry that i took so much time to do it, but I am glad that finally I have done it 😄
Amritsar, this city was founded by Fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Sri Ramdas Sahib ji. The city was originally known as Ramdaspur, later it came to be known as Amritsar.
Amritsar is made of two words: Amrit and Sar. Here Amrit means the nectar and Sar mean the pool. So in the Golden Temple there is a big pool of nectar (the holy water) considered to be vary sacred by the devotees. And that's why the city was called Amritsar.
Golden Temple is the most important spiritual site of Sikhism. It is also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib (The abode of God). The pool and the temple complex was completed by Sri Guru Ramdas ji in 1577. This Gurudwara was attacked and destroyed by various Muslims empires. Maharaja Ranjit Singh rebuilt it in Marble and Copper in 1809 and overlaid the central sanctum with Gold foil in 1830. So that's why this place got the name of Golden Temple. In the picture you may see the Central Sanctum with Golden color. And there is white marbled building all around the pool. Wikipedia
Volunteers making daal for food
Every day, nearly 1,00,000 people flock to the Golden Temple in Amritsar in search of peace and prayer. The temple satiates not just your soul, but also your stomach. Home to one of the largest community kitchens in the world, it feeds nearly 75,000 people, every day, all day, at absolutely no cost. The best part—it's run entirely by selfless volunteers who work round-the-clock to dish out food. Soruce
(Here is my little daughter in the temple)
That's all for today.
Some of the images are mine while some are sourced from internet, source of them given below each picture.
Thank you everyone
Love light and peace be to all!
