Social Media : Advantages and Disadvantage

I'm glad am participating in the week 5, edition 3 contest of @hivelearners.

Social Media came to the forefront about ten to fifteen years ago and since then it has grown in popularity and there will be no stopping it. Over the years, more platforms have emerged and changes have been made to existing ones. Tell us two reasons you like social media. And also two reasons you feel it is bad.

I was opportuned to join social media at a younger age.
The first social media i joined was 2go.
I could remember the star levels.
The lowest was Novice while the highest level was the Ultimate.
I could recall when we sleep leaving the app on just to grow our level.
Then i joined Facebook, few years later i joined Whatsapp, and here i am in so many social media handle.

REASONS WHY I LIKE SOCIAL MEDIA

• Easy communication:
  Social Media has made it very easy to communicate with people even those abroad.
  Sometimes, i might not have credit to call but i would chat my friends and check up on them.

They even upgraded in having video calls and voice calls just to help communication easy.

Imagine years back when there was no social media how boring it was. Phone were only owned my wealthy people and sending letters could take a long time to reach the receiver, but now in a second we can pass any information no matter the distance.

• Another reason i like social media is the fact that i can connect with different people at a particular time.
  Imagine owning a shop, the item is limited to only the people staying at that particular area.
  But social media allow us to reach large audience, therefore allowing me to sell my items easier and faster.

Social media also allow you build your brand.

REASONS I DON'T LIKE SOCIAL MEDIA

Although there are many advantages of Social media, there are also Disadvantages and reasons why i don't like it.

• Social Media has reduced family time.
  Earlier, i talked about communication. It is true that Social Media help us to communicate to people far off.
  It also reduces family quality time.
  People who are close do not have time to talk, tell stories because there is so much focus on Social Media.
  People become so addictive to it.

• Social Media has also caused alot of unhealthy competitions.
  People compete with each other and even go extra mile just to get something because their friend posted it.
  People indulge in evil just so they can show off on Social media.

In as much as social media is good, we should try to only partake in the good side of it.
