Public Embarrassment

The worse thing anyone as shy as me would want for themselves, is getting publicly embarrassed, and that was what almost happened to I and my friends some few nights ago.

A friend of mine had visited and told I and another friend to get ready to go hangout later that night. The plan was to visit somewhere around here and stay till around 10pm before heading back home. When we got to the location, it turned out we arrived late and the event we had hoped to see was already over.

That didn't stop us from buying some drinks and just hanging around for about an hour, before we decided to go to a different location to go finish up the time...because the plan was to not go home until it was 10pm.

Well, we got to this second spot and everything was going smoothly as usual, we got some drinks and some food, and we basically were all having fun, until it was time to pay for our bill and leave.

The waitress brought the bill, and just looking at her, you can tell she was one of those ladies who was ready to call the attention of everyone there if you refused to pay even a penny, but luckily for us, we had every intention to pay her in full so we had no problem, or at least that was what I thought.

When she brought the bill over, we of course had handed it over to my friend, the one who told us to come hang. We gave him the bill and he proceeded to make the payment, only to tap my legs few minutes later and showed me what was written on his phone screen.

Apparently, due to the money we had spent on the first place we went to, he had exceeded his bank limit and could no longer make any transfers for that day. When he showed me that, I almost choked on my drink but quickly played it cool because I didn't want the waitress to suspect anything and call the attention of other people towards us.

I had asked my friend how much the bill was, and luckily for us, I had just that exact amount of money in my bank account, so I paid and he refunded the money to me the next day. I said luckily, because that money wasn't even suppose to be in my account that night, it was cash I needed to use to make payment for some other stuff the next day, but I had requested for it to be sent to my account earlier mainly because I was going out that night.

I didn't ask for it to be sent to me because I planned on making use of it, I asked for it to be sent because I have this rule where I don't go out with someone (especially if they're the ones buying) unless I have money on me. That way, if that person decides to bail on me or some unforseen obstacle comes and they can no longer foot the bill like what happened that night, I can come to the rescue and avoid any form of embarrassment.

And thank God I have that rule because ever since that night, I haven't stopped thinking about what could have happened to us if I didn't have that money on me. This is why no matter who you go out with, having a rule like that is very very important.
