After I posted on Steemit yesterday about Jefferson Airplane and Grace Slick, my friend on Facebook shared this Simpsons video with me and it totally cracked me up. Homer realizes nobody even knows about his favorite bands anymore, the kids hate his classic rock radio station. "You're embarrassing us," Bart says. "Dad, nobody cares about your stupid dinosaur bands!" After working for over an hour on a post about 1960s culture with the example of Jefferson Airplane and getting no upvotes, I feel kinda like Homer. But Bart is right, nobody cares.

So that's the trick about blogging for Steem, you have to find an audience and, if you want to be successful, that audience needs to be as big as possible. If your interests are too obscure or outdated, you aren't going to make much SBD with your posts. Does that mean being strategic about how you approach your blog? Not necessarily. There's a lot of talk about finding your niche, but perhaps a better way is to dabble in different areas and see what works. Throw a bunch out there and see what sticks.

Steemit is in crisis. @haejin is taking an ever larger portion of the rewards pool, @ned is focused on SMTs like that's going to change the whole field, but I'm afraid it's more game rigging and tinkering with multiple token systems inside the Steemit ecosystem (???) .. frankly I dont see the advantages. I saw @abh12345 's post today, Am I stupid?, about how whales make much greater profits from investing in bots than they do in upvoting and how that's bad for the system overall. I've sent some SBDs to bots in the hope of getting a good upvote, but really it's just vanity and hoping to play the game, but it just enriches the bots the most. That's where all the Steem is going, out a vent into their accounts. And maybe that's the reason Steemit exists ultimately anyway, to make a few whales super rich. I'm not sure.

And like some kind of dinosaur, I'm like a rock star past my prime. Nobody knows about my interests and as a minnow almost nobody even sees my posts. But for now I'm going to keep trying. No reason to buy a suicide note yet .. :) Don't kill yourself, Daddy, we love you. Stay with us. We'll even listen to you babble on about Jefferson Airplane ... :)
