Your Future With Steemit

I have read many posts here recently on the upcoming SMT's and how great this will be for Steem. Notice I didn't say Steemit. I was ok with this as I am gaining small bits of Steem daily, as well as making small purchases to power up. That is until I came across this post last night. It was the exchange between @davemccoy and @lukestokes that has gotten me curious on the future of Steemit.

In the exchange, it led to a reply from @lukestokes that really has me questioning quite a bit here. Paraphrasing him, he was basically told that Steemit inc doesn't really care about the first couple million users, their focus is on next 100 million users. So if I am reading this right, Steemit is little more than a demo to show the future SMT startups what is possible. That's great and all for the future of Steem (I think), but what does this mean for those of us who are here being the guinea pigs helping sell the idea of the tokens?

I retrained myself after first getting here to think of Steemit as a community of smaller communities, despite everyone always seeming to want everyone on Discord. I don't do apps, I ingrained in myself to guard my keys unlike anything else ever guarded and will never be handing them over to apps like Steemconnect etc. I have been all in on Steemit and Steemit alone. Pushing for what I thought were practices that would help Steemit grow and help user retention that is declining (you can see the numbers referenced in one of the posts I linked). Things like shying away from vote bots for example, because they were bad for the platform. After reading the above posts, I have to ask myself, have I been an idiot?

I guess I am curious if this is all really a temporary thing, this whole community project. Obviously no one knows if one day after the SMT's take off if Steemit inc wakes up, decides this is to much hassle, it served its purpose and time to close shop. But let's suppose they don't let this place become AOL (remember when AOL was a thing?). How many here are planning on jumping ship to EOS, or to one of the communities that will spring from the SMT's? Am I foolish in thinking most of you will still be here in one or two years? Am I being stupid helping to build communities that are soon to disappear as the SMT's roll out?

I don't really know how many will read this post, but hoping most of you in my circle will and at least communicate your vision here, if there is one really. Because I was really sold on the idea that we could build something awesome here, things like the familyprotection and informationwars etc. All while securing our own futures in rewards, even if it is in small increments for now. That was/is the future I saw for myself, but now wonder if it was all ignorance on my part to think it could be.

There are no wrong answers, so please if you read this be honest and share how you see this for yourself. Maybe even ask those in your circles if this makes you wonder as well. I'm not going anywhere until such a time as many of you may abandon this, or Steemit inc does. Just wondering how much I need to adjust my expectations again.
