This year will be very small. I'm moving from one apartment to another in a few months, so will be difficult doing much with food crops. My partner has some garlic growing in the kitchen, and am going to buy a small container to grow a very small amount on our patio. I have secured some heirloom seeds (most will wait for next year). This year will be mostly about renting some land and growing some trees.

I still have a lot to learn, such as soil compositions, propagation, cuttings, organic certifications etc. I also feel drawn when I jump more into this next year to see if I can encourage projects such as Ron Finley is doing in LA. I may see about something along that lines this year as well, once the shutdown begins lifting.

This year I'm thinking focusing on the tree growing to try to get a down payment on some land in a year or two.

Depending on availability of money, hydroponics would have to be used for most growing this year, as the growing season here is cut short due to how cold it gets by mid fall.

I've already secured some seeds for my partners adult children to grow this year however, as I think there are going to be major problems with the food supply this year (and perhaps beyond).

Here, the squirrels are really bad at stealing the food. We tried to grow both potatoes and tomatoes here on our patio in the past and they dug the potatoes up and stole the tomatoes as they began ripening. I was looking at some boxes with steel mesh netting on the top that should keep them out. Will help us a little, but am itching to grow LOTS of food.

I'm really stoked about people renting their land to people like myself, so maybe I can find a way to grow more food that it looks like at the moment. Some of the sites say some of the people with land want a portion of the crops instead of money, so will let post about it once I get a clearer picture.
