My Sister Is The Best Gift Giver Ever
Well, she’s just the best ever!!
Over a year ago, my sister and I watched a reading of The Raven and Annabel Lee on t.v. On the same show, there was a half hour or so on the life of Poe, the strangest parts of it anyway. When the host told the story of the this painting of Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe, I fell in love with the portrait.
The post-mortem watercolor was commissioned by Edgar Allen Poe just hours after her death, the result of a five year battle with tuberculosis. This is the only image of Virginia to ever be authenticated.
The Most Thoughtful Gift
When I saw the portrait and heard its story I mentioned that I would love to have a copy of it to hang. I like a lot of things, I think a lot of things are pretty or nice, but I’ve got enough stuff (don’t we all!?) so, I don’t want everything I like. But there’s something about this painting...
So, without my knowledge, my sister set a reminder in her phone to remind her everyday since then, that I wanted a copy of it. She said she wanted to remember because she can never pin down an answer to “What do you want?” for Christmas and birthdays.
She and her fiancé had it printed onto a canvas, and had it professionally framed for me. It is so beautiful, I just had to share it.
