My previous post was about retired life and I was pleasantly surprised that there is much interest. So I decided to share with you all about my retired lifestyle.
This morning I woke up early as I wanted to take a walk to the Sama Jaya Nature Reserve. Due to my slipped disc, I am not able to run. Instead, I do brisk walking.
I enjoyed walking here as I liked the green environment and I do feel that I am in the middle of the jungle. Sometimes there are monkeys there as well but this morning I did not encounter any. I am very lucky that in the middle of Kuching City itself, there is a forest reserve.
Along the path, there are wooden pavilions where you can rest or take shelter from the hot sun.
There is also a small pond with a quaint bridge crossing it.
Some of the trees in the forest reserve are very tall.
This building is in the shape of a Baruk. The Baruk is a Bidayuh Round house. The Bidayuhs are one of the indigenous tribes of Sarawak. In the past, they used to be headhunters and the skulls are displayed in the Baruk.
This is my favorite place for brisk walking and now that I am retired, I can come here more often.
After my morning walk, I went to the Stutong Wet Market to pick up my weekly provisions.
The Stutong market is a 2-storey building; the ground floor is a wet market while the first floor houses a food court and some retail stalls.
This is the place where I get my fresh pork.
When you buy chicken, you can request the seller to cut the chicken to your desired size.
I like to come to this market because there is a wide range of vegetables.
You can get many local fruits here like banana, papaya, guava and pineapple.
There are many stalls selling a wide range of dry stuff such as cooking oil, seasonings, sauces etc.
Local cakes and pastries are just delicious and are slightly cheaper here.
The different types of curry paste here are very colorful. You just tell the seller what type of curry you want to cook (this morning I inform that I will be cooking chicken curry) and the seller will mix and match the paste for you.
Salted vegetables for sale. I usually use salted vegetables to cook soup or duck stew.
You can get almost anything at the market. This stall is selling potted plants.
This is my provision for the week. I will be here again next week.
I do hope that you enjoy my post.
