In the ever-evolving world of Splinterlands with various patches (new units, abilities, rulesets, etc.), Custom Challenges are the best way to find new enemies (I mean friends in battle :)), try new strategies, without worrying about your rating/ranking will go down. These challenges allow players to set rules to hone their skills within a particular ruleset. we can test our skills, have fun with friends, or bet something as a winning prize.
This article will walk you through the various aspects of Custom Challenges, how to challenge other players and provide some unique and fun rules we can try out in our own Custom Challenges.
In Splinterlands, the strength of Custom Challenges lies in the flexibility they offer. As players, we can change various aspects of the game in Splinterlands battle such as:
Mana Cap: we can choose a specific mana limit for our Custom Challenge. The lower mana limit forces players to use units with little mana and adapt their battle strategy to the available units. A higher mana limit allows the use of stronger units, a deeper understanding of the rules, and more complex strategies.
Ruleset (Set of Rules): The Ruleset is the rules that we set on the battlefield, for example:
There are dozens of types of Ruleset in Splinterland, the complete list and explanation can be read here.
Splinter Restrictions: we can limit the battle to only certain element splinters. The limited number of cards encourages players to experiment with different strategies and find ways to build strong formations using just a few splinters across a wide variety of rulesets.
Creating a Custom Challenge in Splinterlands is easy, and challenging other players is just as simple. Here's how to do it:
One Splinter Only: Limit both players to only using one splinter (Earth/Water/Fire, etc.) in the match. This forces the player to become an expert on a single splinter's strengths and weaknesses, across a variety of combat rulesets.
No Legendary Cards: By banning all legendary cards, and forcing players to practice formations using only common, rare, and epic cards, this ruleset will give an advantage to players who do not have complete cards with limited capital, they will focus more on using cards other than expensive Legendary type.
Low Mana Cap: Determine the low mana limit (for example, 15 or below), the units that can be used at low mana will be very different from those at high mana, this will train players to become more skilled at combining the use of low mana units, and also train strong low mana formations across various rulesets.
Equalizing the amount of health: Use the "Equalizer" ruleset to make all creatures have the same health. This will make strong units that were previously difficult to use because of their low amount of health and easily die become strong, Examples of units are Dumacke Orc, Ever-Hungry Skull.
No Heal: Activate the Healing Out ruleset. This will train players to choose tankers and attackers who prioritize damage and speed because there is no heal, speed and attack power become more determining factors. Apart from that, players can also practice using units that have the Repair ability (restores a certain amount of armor every round).
Custom Challenges in Splinterlands offer a variety of battle options, ranging from rulesets, mana, level, etc., where we can compete with friends, or just try new strategies, Custom Challenges are the right tool to deepen our understanding of the game while having fun.
