My day was not too exciting.
10 am - I woke up and actually got up. Could have stayed in bed much longer but I REALLY needed to piddle-dink. Then there was no going back to bed. I think it’s a recurring theme – but I put on the same clothes that I had on yesterday and started my day with no shower.
On a positive note – I did NOT check my email right away today. I think it’s because the computer was not in my room.
I took out the dog, found out that the internet was not working, woke up my sleepy head grandson (unusual that he is sleeping in so much but he is still recovering from the weekend) and woke up 5yo. She had been up but had a fight with 14 yo and decided to go back to bed. That’s my kind of kid – whether it is good or not I do not know. I guess it’s better than staying downstairs and fighting.
I then swiffered which is a very important thing in our house full of hairy animals.
While swiffering I found that 5 yo was just sitting around – this is frowned upon in this establishment.
I have been working hard trying to get them to do their “morning routines” right away, first thing in the morning, no getting sidetracked. I’ve been working on this for at least a year, maybe two. Recently I figured out that if I MADE them do it by punishing if they did not, then they would do it. Otherwise there was no incentive and they could take an hour or two to get dressed, eat breakfast, brush their teeth and feed the dog. An hour! Just because something is frowned upon does not hold water with kids, action must be taken or you must give up. I took action on this one.
So 5 yo lost electronics for 24 hours. Shortly after this 14 yo also lost electronics for the exact same thing. You’d think it was the end of the world with the glares and crying.
I then checked teen granddaughter’s Biology test. Oh it was terrible, horrible, no good and very bad. So she studied some more. I don’t allow bad grades, this is called “mastery teaching”.
So by 11:30 am I managed to cause 5 yo to cry and 14 yo to study more.
After lunch we usually have quiet time, I wasn’t going to make them, but the kids wanted to. Teen daughter wanted to piece together more of her quillow and 5 yo wanted to play. Don’t know about grandson, but he ended up reading about quick sand.
Did you know that there really is no danger of sinking into a pit of quick sand? I will no longer fear the quick sand. My grandson wants to know what quick sand I will not fear, but like any good politician I avoided the question.
For quiet time today I laid on the couch and almost dozed off. Praise God that the internet was down. I needed a rest from all the lazing around I’d done all day. :)
1:30 pm - I had the 5 yo and 14yo kids keep going with their school work. Actually started them on it I think. If I remember correctly the crying and anger before lunch didn’t allow for any time for school work.
2 pm – I broke down and had a shower. I knew I would. I just can’t stand not having a shower in the morning so I end up giving up and showering sometime during the day. Really it takes the same amount of time to shower at 10 am as it does at 2 pm so I should just go ahead and do it when I wake up. Duh. Oh, and I put some clean clothes on. Yay, me!
Don’t really remember much after this…..I got the internet to work and checked my email.
I puttered around the kitchen and decided to bake some things to clean out the cupboards. My husband made gluten free rocky road brownies and I made crustless pecan pie. Both turned out very well – nummy.
Teen made supper – Deceptively Delicious french toast and eggs. Little kids helped me and teen while we cooked.
6:30 pm - I took 5 yo to the store. She wanted to spend her money to buy other people gifts. How sweet. I felt a little bit guilty about this because I had quoted a Bible verse to her – that’s why she wanted to do this.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
My intention was to get her to understand that she didn’t need to hoard her toys, she could let go. But she immediately wanted to spend her money on others. That was nice. She had about $60 and her gift list was small so I wasn’t too concerned.
She bought:
Cottage Cheese for her cousin
Cream Cheese for her brother
Gum for 15 yo
Heath Bars for Daddy
Fresh Mozzarella for me
She is so sweet! A foodie in training!
7:30 pm - Daddy took the kids outside to play. Teen weeded her strawberries. I vegged out in front of the PC and snacked on brownies and pecan pie.
1:04 am – I am now staying up late in order to do school planning. That is the plan. However, I have not yet done any school planning. I need to pull it together!
