Because he liked the painting so much, he kept it, just like he kept the memories of his wife. I wanted to show an attachment that the protagonist has towards the memories of his wife.
I was referring to the wife of the protagonist who died and left him alone.
The painting and music that it produced was symbolic of how art can heal our pain.
