I recently came across a Slack App called Donut that provided a very simple solution to a very common problem that I am sure most people have seen in organisations that they have worked in. This was interesting because I also had a theory that we were missing out or losing meaningful interactions in group scenarios (e.g. team meetings), so I started thinking about creating ways for individuals to connect in one-on-one scenarios (without making it seem like a date, which is the 1-1 situation most of us are familiar with).
If we look at the two main value proposition of this app, which is pairing and onboarding, I think you'll begin to see how these concepts might be useful to Busy.
Judging from the types of posts that I see (and my own experience), onboarding is obviously something that is quite important but with a steep learning curve it is not enough to simply provide a set of guidelines or a FAQ or trying to wade through a lot of materials and get more frustrated. This is where pairing someone who is new to someone who is a little bit more experienced and has just been through similar problems can help both the person who is new (and needs some hand holding) as well as the person who is a little bit more experienced and needs opportunities to contribute to the community.
I think that pairing can also help create some interesting connections and opportunities amongst community members, and allow more quality time spent between users to foster better relationships. When you combine it with the concept of onboarding or collaboration I think it can add a lot more value to the group interactions that already exist, especially for new comers that may have a lot to contribute but find it difficult to break into the different groups.
Since we already have the tools to do this, it is a matter of introducing a process using the existing tools, in the same way that Donut exists within the suite of Slack Apps.
