Drizzle, the Lady of the Seas.
Carmen was on vacation in Cuba; her stay coincided with the storm and hurricane season. Carmen came from a city where it rained constantly and the rain was accompanied by thunderstorms, so she was not worried about the coming storm.
Although a natural phenomenon could not be compared to a tropical storm that could become a hurricane, Carmen took it calmly, despite the warnings of the different public authorities and citizens who were preparing as best they could to face the storm.
Carmen ignores the warnings given by the employees of the hotel where she was staying, Carmen went for a walk along the Malecon; she had not gone to Cuba to be cooped up in a hotel, and she planned to visit the most emblematic tourist sites of the city, those of which she had read hundreds of reviews in the different travel and tourism blogs, of which she was a faithful subscriber.
Arriving at the Malecon she was impressed by the beauty of the place, no review she had read matched the beauty of what her eyes were contemplating, then she started walking, camera in hand to capture the future memories of her visit.
About ten minutes into her walk, Carmen felt the first drops of rain on her body and heard a deafening thunder; she continued walking, while around her people ran for shelter; the sky turned gray from one moment to the another, the sea was shaking fiercely, thunder preceded the lightning that illuminated everything in its path. The storm was in full splendor…
Terrified Carmen realized that she was in the eye of the storm; she began to run, not knowing where to go, when suddenly she heard the screams of some children, who in the distance were urging her to go to where they were. With great difficulty, since the rain was obstructing her vision, Carmen was able to reach the shelter.
The shelter was a colonial house, which had partially collapsed as a result of a hurricane in the past. The three children there were brothers, Juan, the oldest was 9 years old, Andres was 7 years old and Violeta, the youngest, was 4 years old. Carmen asked the children where their parents were, Juan replied that they were working; so he had decided to go out to play with his brothers without their parents' consent.
The two older children were visibly frightened and also worried about the earful they would receive when they got home, Violeta felt nervous because the thunder and lightning made her very scared. One of the lightning bolts struck close to where they were, and Violeta burst into tears, her brothers could not calm her down, so Carmen extended her arms and Violeta jumped on hers.
To calm this 3 little’s kids, especially Violeta who was trembling and crying, Carmen decided to tell them a story.
_ In my village, on stormy nights, a lady emerges from the depths of the sea, wearing a beautiful dress, from which hundreds of drops of water come off and form small waves around her, allowing the lady to float instead of walking.
The three children asked in unison.
_ What is the lady's name?! What is her name?!
_ Drizzle, that's her name. Carmen answered.
_ Continue Mrs., keep telling us. Violeta replied, with her little voice still sobbing but noticeably calmer, as she snuggled her face against Carmen's chest, in order to avoid seeing the lightning and thunderbolts that were constantly falling on the rough sea.
_ This lady goes all over town to make sure that all the people are safe and protected during the torrential downpours. As a form of gratitude the first citizens of the village decided to make an offering to Drizzle, The Lady of The Seas, planting trees on the land where she was seen to watch and take care of them. Over the years this land became a large forest, in the center of which is planted a large oak tree; the first tree offered to the lady. This tree is known today as the "Lighthouse of Drizzle".
The children were so absorbed in the story that Carmen was telling them, that they had not noticed that the storm had begun to cool down.
_ Look children, it seems that Lady Drizzle has taken a little walk along the Malecon to protect all us, so let's take advantage of the moment to take a cab and take you home.
Carmen got out of the cab; put Violeta on the floor, and Violeta immediately ran to her parents as well as Juan and Andres.
_ Mom, dad, the lady told us a very nice story. Violeta shouted, already in her mother's arms.
The children's parents, deeply grateful to Carmen, invited her home for dinner. During dinner the children said the respective prayer, this time in honor of the drizzling lady.
Carmen returned to the hotel, exhausted from all the hustle and bustle, took a shower, went to bed and fell fast asleep.
