How time flies so fast that I can now harvest the fruits of my labor literally and figuratively!
In my post the previous month, I shared my little garden at home. Despite the limited space, I have several vegetables and spices planted on a portion where no ornamental plants were placed. Some of the crops were planted on pots and most of the areas beside our fences were utilized so we could grow more crops at home.
Yesterday, as I was walking outside our house, I noticed that some of my crops were already bearing fruits. And there are also some weeds growing together with it so I thought also of removing them.
What is good with my crops at home is they all grew naturally without using some chemicals that would affect their growth and the bearing of fruits. And it is good to know that no insects and pests were attacking them.
The Green Tomatoes
The first crops that I noticed bearing many fruits were the healthy green tomatoes. They were planted beside our fence.
Last time, the stalks of these tomatoes were still so little but they were already bearing fruits. I was so delighted to see them beating a bunch of fruits and they were so fresh and green.
I picked a few fruits only since I let the other ones rip on every stalk where they were planted. And then I placed them on a white tray that I brought to the garden.
The Lady Finger
I had many lady finger crops back then, but after I harvested plenty of fruits, I cut its stall so it could grow once more and bear fruits. Now I only have a few stalks left but the good thing is that they were always bearing fruits and I could still harvest at any time whenever I needed them.
At this moment, I only harvested a few since I only need a little lady finger for the recipe I will be cooking for dinner. And after I picked some, I also placed them on my little white tray.
The Lemon Grass
My lemon grass plants were planted in big pots. Some of them were also planted on the soil so they could grow more leaves. But I always wanted to plant them in pots so I could easily get a group of leaves every time I used them for cooking.
Now and then, we use lemon grass at home to add an aromatic leaf to every recipe we cook. I so love its fragrant aroma and these leaves are the best for any kind of dish.
After picking some leaves, I tied them as many Filipinos tied so it would not be messy. And then later I placed it on the tray where most of my harvest was placed.
The Green Wild Chili
Chili has been my favorite since I was younger. When I noticed that most of my transplants were now growing taller and bearing some fruits, I felt happy.
The wild chili is planted near the Malabar Spinach. And as I see it, it loves to be climbed by the Malabar spinach. I love seeing it grow healthy. I also picked some of it just enough for the recipe that I will be cooking and placed it once more on the white tray.
The Horseradish
The horseradish is one of the oldest plants I have in my little garden. When we transferred here in 2016, I planted this. Our neighbors had even asked for a stem to plant in their backyard, and I am happy that it also grew. And now, it is growing taller with more green leafy vegetables.
I picked some leaves and placed them together with the other spices and vegetables. I love adding this vegetable to soups with either fish or chicken. My favorite dish with it is Fish tinola and Native chicken soup.
The Malabar Spinach
Malabar spinach is so easy to grow. I planted them through its stem. And now they are climbing and growing so healthy beside our fence and even climbing up.
I so love how shiny and big their leaves were. This means that no pests and insects are interested in eating its leaves. I got many leaves and again placed them on my white tray.
Finally, here are the vegetables, fruits, and spices that I was able to harvest in my mini garden. I took quick snaps of them before I brought them to the kitchen.
My heart leaped up for joy seeing a variety of crops. What a priceless moment that I was able to harvest the fruits of my labor at home and be able to cook them for dinner.
After bringing them to the kitchen, I cut them into pieces and placed them on the white tray. How lovely to see them all on a frame. The dish I made was indeed so nutritious.
I wish to harvest more! Perhaps I have saved a penny knowing that the prices of vegetables, spices, and fruits in the market were now so high. I was able to cook soup for dinner with a fish. They were so fresh and had grown naturally from my mini garden.
