I wasn't a dummy, that I know, but why couldn't I be among the best five students in my class no matter how hard I try?
I was very good in my nursery school days , always receiving the best pupil award, but things changed when I became a student.

I had this beautiful, smart and intelligent classmate that was also my friend. She always appears undisturbed, she was this girl with cheerful facial countenance and very outstanding in her academic pursuit.
Blessing, just as her name goes, has always been awarded with presents as best in mathematics and she equally takes the lead of which the first position never missed the track of her report cards.
Regarded as an idol, she became a reference point to most of us in the hands of our parents, especially we, the growing teenagers. My parents wouldn't miss the opportunity of inviting her over to our habitat in order to praise her undiluted academic prowess. My parents liked everything about her including her walking steps.
What surprised me now is that I never envied her or be jealous of her, instead she was my motivation, I admired her calmness and intelligence...
Burning with unquenchable zeal to surmount Blessing's intelligence over academics became a great challenge to me.
Though I felt I had given my best to academic performances but seeing her grades i would feel that life has never treated me fairly enough. I failed to see where my limitations have dumped my aspirations.
My results then has no comparison with that of Blessing's, am distant far from her excellence. At this, the family of my mother side spoke shame of me.
I've heard words like
"you should quit school all together, school is not meant for everyone, you are aiming too high, you are not very clever",
Sometimes my dad will ask me if Blessing have two heads, but that's “fine” as i always responded...

It was after my senior secondary school class one (ss1) I realized that I had been reading wrongly and had improper medium to assimilate what I read.
Few days before resumption, one of my personal teachers called out to me and admonished.
She said, " your difficulties lies not in ability to study but you lack confidence in yourself, don't be naive nor intimidated by others. Don't be internally distracted remain focused at all times."
These words lit the flames in me. Attempting these possibilities and guides she provided became so helpful. At the end of the first term, the rumors of my immediate change and successes in class tests and exams became so alarming, that I won myself third position for first time in my life.
Thus, no one could believe it right?
I beat my chest that I have to outshine Blessing and take the lead. When she, Blessing was still exercising her pride, I became second in our class, another success that I had to climb the stage with first position now.
I wasn't fulfilled yet because my task is yet incomplete. Becoming best in all the subjects was my target. I worked so hard that my struggles yielded a positive result. At the end of third term, I took the lead in most subjects including English and Mathematics.
It was at this I realized that failure is a step to success.
My continuous failures would have been bad if I had failed to rise up again. Hence, continous trial in deed earned me that success.
Finally, my family could not exhaust their joy towards me.
And since then, I made sure I stay focus so I won't lost my glory.
THE END.
