Why do shows like 'The Walking Dead' and horror movies seem to be trending right now? It's because society can relate to the content that Hollywood is promoting on our TV screens.
Haven't you noticed that Halloween gets more celebrated each year? People love dressing up as monsters and wearing fake blood, just to have "fun". But if you dig deeper, you'll notice that Halloween allows people to fulfill their repressed desires of being monsters.
So why has society become a nation of Zombies. Well, human beings were becoming smarter, but this became to be dangerous for the State. The State requires all of it's citizens to be docile workers. Therefore it's better to have citizens obsessed with their smartphones, to the extent that they'll become Zombies.
Smartphones aren't the only method used by the State. All types of entertainment and media will be used to make each citizen a worker who is oblivious to the conditions in society.
