The Power of Money

"A rich man is nothing but a poor man with money" - W. C. Fields

What is Money?

Everyone loves money, but can't seem to explain what it is? You'll find a family man working over 40 years for his family, but even he can't proclaim what money is? Let's see what learned men have to say:

Karl Marx

In his Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts (1844) Marx asserts that " Money is the pimp between need and object, between life and man's means of life." By using the term 'pimp', is Marx assuming that money holds negative connotations? Does Marx assert that money is not to be trusted, like most pimps?

William Shakespeare

In the Timon of Athens (1607) Shakespeare writes that money is the "common whore of mankind". Similar to Karl Marx, Shakespeare uses the word 'whore', which carries negative connotations.

It's quite clear that money is frowned upon by learned men.

The Lust of Money?

"You can have anything that your heart desires. Everything is yours. As long as you have money, the world is yours." This sounds nice right, it's all what you could have wished for. But, there's always a sacrifice. Are you willing to sacrifice morality and goodness, in order to get what you want?

Are you willing to trade your life for riches?
