Introduction

Wow what a crazy almost two weeks it has been since Light’s Verdict has dropped. We’ve seen some crazy decks in the wild and in tournaments with the new cards, and things are just so exciting right now! With more time I think we’ll see more decks and combos being developed with these cards. I’m not going to repeat what the Gods Unchained team has already done with the awesome lore and set explanation or the in-depth Buyer’s Guide showing all the drop rates, but I did want to highlight some of the decks that have been created using these cards. Some of them are my creations and you may have already read about them in my other articles, and some of them I don’t know the true origins of, so if you know, inform me and I’ll add it in!

Honestly though, the team wasn’t lying when they said that these are Powerful cards. You still have some time, get them while they’re hot!

Rare: The Dearly Departed and Epic: Shines On Us All

image(3).png

I put these two together as @MightyUncle has done for his Control Nature deck, because they can work hand-in-hand. Play Dearly Departed and see a big mean Thaeriel in your opponent’s hand? Well, Obliterate it, then use Shines On Us All on it to ensure your opponent never gets their copy back! On top of that, you get to delve a non-tribed creature as well. I actually played against MightyUncle and this deck and that’s just what he did to me (well, I didn’t have Thaeriel though so sad face) and he delved an Alexis, Archon’s Sword to really turn the game around! Link to his deck list here.

Epic: Forge New Bonds

image(6).png

Here’s an interesting one that I saw from Reddit. Basically the idea is to set up an infinite loop using a 1-cost Echocaster and A Toast to Peace, rendering your opponent’s creatures useless and probably milling them in the process. I’ve seen iterations that use a Beam Sentry to do chip damage to face as well. To set it up, you need to use a Forge New Bonds on a 1-mana creature to discount Echocaster, then Gleamweaver your Forge New Bonds to ensure Echocaster always brings bring A Toast to Peace. That means no spells from the Sanctum neither! Deck here

Epic: Pyrrhic Knowledge

image(8).png

Used by @[8m]Fakemews to win the Invitational Tournament 2 weekends ago, this Stormfield combo deck can kill you as quickly as turn 5 (he once did it on turn 4!). The premise is discounting your Form of Unity, Pyrrhic Knowledge (or second Form of Unity), and one Stormfield (there are other ways to get lethal too), filling your board with minions, then unleashing a 15 damage spell twice to the face. Ouch. Check it out here

Epic: An Empire Reborn

image(10).png

It’s been said that @[NVS]Clecle started this Rockdrake Over The Line deck, and now that Light’s Verdict came out, people have been adding An Empire Reborn to it to produce more face damage. Basically you want to get your minions out, either through bringing them back to the void or playing them deeply discounted, using Necronomics to refill your mana, then Over The Line (or An Empire Reborn first for more!) for some serious and possibly lethal face damage. Here’s the deck as played by @shobe87

Epic: An End To War

image(12).png

@Lexotan has created this monster Control War deck which uses An End To War for, you guessed it, Control. Keep the board clear, heal back damage taken with various heal options, then go for value with your late game cards which includes Thaeriel and Avatar of War. I personally would not like to face this deck haha. See the deck here

Chase Epic: Martyr of Whiteplain

image.png

You’ve probably seen this card a few times already in this compilation, especially for Control decks, but I used it to great effect in my Aggro Light deck which you can read about here. It gave me my first ever Top 10 Weekend Ranked finish!

Chase Epic: Blade of Whiteplain

image(4).png

Again, another card that you would’ve seen in the decks listed above. This card is even more versatile than the Martyr, because who doesn’t like drawing cards while destroying enemies?? I used them in my Aggro Light deck, but I’ve also included them in a Card Draw Magic deck which helped me get to 35th place in the Aqua tournament last weekend, out of 512 participants :)

Legendary: Divine Coronet

image(13).png

This deck was first created I believe by copperpitch@copperpitch and/or @[8M]Nackarub; I wrote an article about it with some modifications that I made. It’s just plain wild sometimes when you get a 9-mana creature on turn 5, only to delve another one or two on the next turn!

Legendary: Light Seeks the Truth

image(14).png

This card seems like a decent include in Control Light decks, and may benefit if you have Chosen One synergy, and here I found a example of it being used to good effect by an anonymous player. 85.7% is pretty good if you ask me! It’s built on an already solid Control Light foundation with tons of value, healing, and removal.

Legendary: Forged In The Light

image.png

Is the Chosen One making a comeback??? Perhaps, with a couple of (Legendary) support cards in this mini-set. I created a deck for this card after playing against one that was using this Legendary. If I hadn’t found my removal early I would’ve gotten decimated by a beefy and growing Chosen One!

Chase Legendary: Thaeriel, The Fallen

image(15).png

Finally we have the chase Legendary, the one and only Thaeriel. Again you may have already seen this card a few times on Control lists above, but copperpitch@copperpitch used it to great effect with a 15th place finish in the Aqua tournament with this Control Light deck. Check out his post, then check out the deck!
