Think of the person you'd least like to see alongside you in heaven...perhaps someone who has hurt or betrayed you.
Someone who has done the unthinkable. Someone who seems to have a personal vendetta against you for reasons you may not even know. Deep inside you, justice cries out, "This person should be forgiven." All the while grace whispers softly, "What this person needs most is unconditional love."
That's exactly what God has extended to you. Unconditional love goes beyond forgiveness, although forgiveness is necessary to help love grow. Unconditional love chooses to treat an enemy the same way you would a friend,to bestow blessings in place of revenge. Unconditional love gives others a glimpse of heaven.
There are many practical ways you can bless an enemy with love. Praying regularly for those who have wronged you is a great way to begin. When you pray for someone, your view of that person changes to become more like God's. You begin to see needs in your former "enemy's" life that perhaps God can use you to help fill. Ask God for creativity and the opportunity to put your prayers into action. Ask Him to help you stop reliving the wrongs of the past through gossip. Changing the words you say can help change the way you think and feel.
Although choosing to bless an enemy obviously benefits that individual in this life, and perhaps even the next,it also benefits you. It releases you from feelings of bitterness and anger.it allows your forgiveness to go beyond sincere words toward healing damaged emotions. It helps set you free. The freer you are to love others----including those who seem unlovable, the more joyful your journey toward heaven will be.
